The SAT-What is it?
The SAT is a college admissions test that measures critical reading, mathematical reasoning, and writing skills. The SAT lasts 3 hours and 45 minutes. In the U.S., the SAT is administered on 7 national test dates in October, November, December, January, March/April, May, and June.
The SAT-Why should I take it?
Colleges and universities use the SAT as one measure among others-high school curriculum, GPA, extra-curricular activities, personal essays, and teacher recommendations-of a student’s readiness to do college-level work. SAT scores are compared with the scores of other applicants and the accepted scores at that institution; scores can also be used as a basis for awarding scholarships and merit-based financial aid.

Students seeking need-based financial aid must be careful of how much money is in their savings and checking accounts. THIS IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT!
Colleges and universities expect you (the student) to use virtually your entire savings to help pay for college. You should take action to reduce money held in your name; if you need to buy things (such as a laptop computer for next year), do it before you complete the FAFSA, CSS/PROFILE, and other financial aid documents. Do whatever you can to reduce the amount of money in your name and report the reduced amount on the FAFSA and CSS/PROFILE financial aid applications.

List your interests. Then research available College Majors, and compare them to your list ofinterests. Chances are you'll find more than one major that corresponds to something you like.
Study course brochures for the major you are deciding on. Talk with senior students about their experiences and what lies ahead academically for you and if that chosen course is one you would definitely like to pursue.
Juniors who are thinking about college and the admissions process are doing themselves a fabulous favor.Here are a variety of items to put on the “To Do List” for junior year: College planning:
Examine goals, priorities, academic interests, geography, size, etc.
Talk to fellow students, older siblings, friends and parents
begin collecting information about the college admissions process.
Attend college programs at school.
Check out library books on college admissions, buy or borrow a college guidebook.
Set up a box with a system for keeping college materials organized.
Plan to attend the national College Fair nearest you.
